Minimum GPA of 3.0 out of 4.0 from the last 60 semester hours of undergraduate work

Prior laboratory research experience

Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited US institution, or a comparable degree from an international institution

Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) Scores

  • Official scores must be reported directly from the ETS testing center to UW-Madison (institution code 1846)
  • Required of all applicants whose native language is not English OR whose undergraduate instruction was not in English
  • Applicants are exempt from the TOEFL if:
    • The official language of instruction at the undergraduate level is exclusively English
    • They hold a degree from an accredited American college or university
    • They have completed and received grades for 2 semesters of course work at an accredited American college or university or an international university where English is the exclusive language of instruction

Note: the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) is no longer required. Effective for the 2018-19 admissions season (those applying for the Fall 2019 CMB class), CMB no longer requires GRE scores, nor will the Admissions Committee use any GRE scores submitted as part of its review.
