CMB Professional Development Seminar: Gene Ananiev

Speaker: Gene Ananiev, Research Scientist and Manager UW Small Molecule Screening & Synthesis Facility (SMSSF) at UW

Gene graduated from Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) with a degree in Biology. He received his PhD in Cellular and Molecular Biology from UW-Madison in 2007, working with Prof. David. C. Schwartz, on developing high throughput methods in genomics. As a postdoc he worked on assay development for drug discovery using iPS cell derived neurons with Prof. Qiang Chang at the Waisman center. In 2012 Gene took a position as a research scientist and manager for High Throughput Screening at the UW Madison small molecule screening facility. In the past five years, the focus of the facility has been the development of cell based and biochemical assay in 1536 well format.

He will be giving a short presentation followed by a Q&A where you can ask him about his career path, job, and life after grad school. Pizza will be provided, and all grad students/post-docs/researchers interested in hearing about different career paths are welcome!
