Charlotte Kanzler
Credentials: Like mammals, planarian flatworms specify their germ cells through inductive signals, signals from surrounding cells. This is in contrast to determinate specification, where future germ cells inherit necessary development signals from the germ plasm of the egg. My work involves investigating the role of the somatic ovary in oocyte development within the planarian Schmidtea mediterranea in order to shed light on inductive molecular mechanisms.
