Credentials: My research mainly focuses on the transcriptional control of red blood cell development and function. Specifically, I investigated how the transcription factor GATA-2 is differentially expressed and regulated by cis-elements in distinct hematopoietic cell types. By establishing distinct genetic networks in HSPCs and erythroid precursors, GATA-1 and GATA-2 regulate their genesis, survival and/or function at distinct stages of erythroid maturation. How GATA factors instigate distinct genetic networks in different contexts, and what downstream factors mediate their functions is incompletely understood. Establishing downstream mediators of GATA factor functions will further provide opportunities for modulating genetic networks and important hematopoietic and vascular processes.
