Credentials: Cortical excitability refers to the ability of the cell cortex - the outermost layer of the cell, rich in cytoskeletal components - to detect an amplify faint signals from within the cell. I am studying how cortical excitability is regulated throughout the cell cycle, and what implications this regulation has on the efficacy of cytokinesis in different organisms.
