The Professional Development Committee is excited to announce our March Alumni Speaker as Dr. Gary PulsinelliAssociate Professor of Law at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville. After earning his PhD from CMB, Dr. Pulsinelli continued as a post-doctoral research fellow in the field of oncology, before enrolling at the University of California-Berkeley where he would later earn his J.D.

Dr. Pulsinelli’s cross-disciplinary career bridges the gaps between research, patent law, and teaching, and he has offered to start his talk with a brief introduction on the “basics of intellectual property”. So, even if you have no interest in pursuing a career in law AFTER the PhD,  come learn and ask questions from someone who did the hard work for you! The remainder of Dr. Pulsinelli’s talk will cover his career journey from UW-Madison to UT-Knoxville.

The seminar will take place on Wednesday, March 13th from 4 – 5:30 p.m. at the Pentouse (top floor), Bock Labs (**note the new location!)

To foster career development through networking, we will also be including the opportunity for current students to meet 1:1 with our alumni speakers directly after their seminar to talk more personally about career goals and important skills to include on a resumé to best reach them. This session is not intended for hiring purposes but rather as an opportunity for you to share your resumé/CV with experienced alumni to receive valuable guidance on how to become a competitive applicant on the job market. This is a great opportunity for students of ALL stages to be proactive on their next steps after the PhD (HINT: don’t put this off until the thesis-writing stage!).

Please use the following link to reserve your spot and bring a current CV with you if possible (but not necessary): https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1rEiT3YNJR_CMiMvyIukGP_OCVr8gyIIhdAB7oxtlfyw/edit?usp=sharing
